Reverse Osmosis technology will provide the benefits of an activated carbon filtration system and that of distillation. Most systems available employ two activated carbon filters together with a semi permeable membrane. The membrane will assist in the effective reduction of inorganic impurities, which the carbon filter will not. Unlike the distillation systems the reverse osmosis system will provide a convenient supply of treated water to a separate tap.
RO or reverse osmosis is known as ion level filtration. Water molecules, small ions and gases can pass through the membrane. However, larger molecules would not pass through an RO membrane. Reverse osmosis systems may also use activated carbon which is a molecular sieve that can remove gases.
Much larger ions, molecules, viruses and bacteria pose more harm than contaminants smaller than water molecules. This is why reverse osmosis is the best way to block toxic heavy metals like lead and virus organisms. RO will also remove sodium and chloride (dissolved salt) from water.
Some dissolved ions similar in size to water molecules can pass through a RO membrane. Minerals such as calcium carbonates made up of calcium, carbon and oxygen. The excess are screened out, like sodium chloride, but a small healthy level are left in.
Puricom Reverse Osmosis Systems
Recommended for water pressure no less than 20 psi, the Puricom RO System is a high quality system designed to meet the needs of most homes in Ireland. It uses the best water purification technology in the world to purify your drinking water at your kitchen sink to provide crystal clear perfect water to you and your family 24 hours a day.
Every day its advanced purification system eliminates 98% of contaminants contained in regular drinking water such as metals, chemicals, nitrates, fluoride, drug residues, bacteria and chlorine.
